Faced with the Ukrainian counter-offensive, more than 50,000 people could be evacuated to the left bank of the Dnieper, the river bordering the city of Kherson.

Kiev accuses Moscow of "trying to scare" the residents of Kherson by organizing their evacuation.

This propaganda show will not work. This is a rather primitive tactic, since the Ukrainian armed forces do not bomb Ukrainian cities, unlike the Russians.

Poland buys South Korean rocket launchers to protect its eastern border

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Poland has undertaken to beef up its defense apparatus. On Wednesday it signed an agreement to buy 288 K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) from South Korea. The first 18 will be delivered as early as 2023 to protect eastern Poland, said Mariusz Blaszczak, the Polish defense minister. They will be manufactured by Hanwha Defence, the defence division of South Korea's Hanwha Corp.

Poland had already signed a $5.8 billion (€5.9 billion) contract in July to buy South Korean K9 tanks and howitzers, of which it has received a first batch of 24. A first batch of tanks and howitzers has already been shipped to Poland under the agreement.

Poland, a NATO member country, has decided to increase its defense budget from 2% to 3% of GDP from 2023, aiming for 5% in the long term, and to more than double the size of its army. Warsaw also signed a contract with South Korea in September for the purchase of 48 FA-50 fighter jets.

The president of Energoatom also gave some details about the detention of Igor Murashov, the former director general of the Zaporizhia power plant. He was arrested by the Russians at the end of September before being released a few days later. "They kept him in a basement for three days," he told AFP.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has announced that it will deliver about 100 jamming systems to Ukraine. Against light drones, the Ukrainian military already uses EDM4S SkyWiper, which is shaped like a weapon and sends an electromagnetic pulse that disrupts the drone's communication and navigation. Two videos of its use have been posted on social networks. These SkyWipers do not appear to have been used against the kamikaze drones.
